Premium Tours

In Oberstaufen you can undertake several beautiful walks and hikes but the most scenic ones are the premium tours "Wild Waters", "Luftiger Grat" and "Alpine Freedom".

Wild Waters

The Premium Route "Wild waters" leads from the peaks of the Hündlekopf mountain along to the beautiful Weißach gorge, and finally back to your starting point. An absolute highlight is the Buchenegger waterfalls, nestled in an ancient forest, of which are very few and far between nowadays in Germany.

The hiking tour starts and finishes at the summit station at Hündle mountain, where you can use the cable car to take you to the top. Firstly, you cross the ridge eastwards towards the Moos Alpe and from there downwards where you cross over the Weißach river for the first time. Then it’s an uphill hike towards Alpe Neugschwend and then back down to Weißach to the impressive Buchenegger waterfalls. From here there is a steep climb back to the Hündlekopf and summit mountain station. Along this footpath you will find many possibilities to stop off and enjoy the well- earned refreshments in one of the original alpine huts.

The Buchenegger waterfalls belong to one of the most famous natural attractions here in the Allgäu region. The enormous amounts of water leaving the Weißach river forces its way down through various rock stages and the last fall has a drop of 18 m into a breathtaking pool, which is easily accessible for bathing. The whole of the rock formations are made from the same geological layered rock which can be found in the Nature Preserve, named the Nagelfluh.

From here you head downwards towards Lanzenbach and then uphill across the Stieg- Alpen, which is at the centre of the famous Nagelfluhkette mountain range. Approximately at mid height, the footpath crosses the slope and leads you towards the Hörmoos-Alpe. From here you walk to Hädrichmoos, which is on the south side of Glutschwendereck and the Fluh and then it’s back to the starting point at the summit mountain station at the Imberg.

Along this route you will see indigenous wildflowers and fauna, the alpine meadows show an abundance of nature. The footpath which takes you behind the Oberstiegalpe boasts mature woodland, with the tree species sycamore maple. These trees are often bizarrely formed and possess a certain charm.

The last stage of the route takes you along an informative activity path, with various stations offering interactive explanations about the alpine farming and the region - fun for all.
