Around the Staufen

Village of Oberstaufen
Village of Oberstaufen
Length: 4,5 km
Difference in altitude: 91 m
Time: 1:15 h
Difficulty: easy*

Start at the train station. Cross the railway and follow the "Immenstädter Straße", then take the footpath and after about 300 meters turn right, before there is a shed with a horse park. Follow the path around the Staufen (“Um den Staufen”). The arrival point is at the train station again.

Extending the tour: Hündle - Thalkirchdorf
Length: 7 km
Difference in altitude: 32 m
Time: 1:45 h
Difficulty: easy

At the backside of the "Staufen" you can follow a path to the "Hündle" (there is also a cable car). At the end of the parking area there is another path, that takes you to Thalkirchdorf. There are stops for refreshments. On the other side of the mainroad B 308 you can follow a path along the railway back to the "Staufen".

Oberstaufen – Paradies – Kapf

Length: 6,2 km
Difference in altitude: 239 m
Time: 1:45 h
Difficulty: medium

Start at the train station. Go and pass the church, so you'll get to "Schlossstraße". Walk up the hill on "Bergstraße", that passes the Schlossbergklinik and the Hotel Allgäu Sonne. Just before you'll get to the main road B 308 turn right. After a hike through a forest you`ll arrive in the district "Berg" with the Café Paradies. Here you can enjoy a wonderful view of parts of Germany-Austria-Switzerland. Just behind the Café Paradies a small path leads you to the top of the "Kapf". Another nice view! Now you get into the forest again. Stay right at the next crossing and then go straight on through the forest – direction to the "Kurhaus". When you get out of the forest, you'll have a wonderful view all over the village of Oberstaufen. Follow the road downhill and take the path to the right behind the "Kurhaus". At the end of the street you'll find the nursing home, where you can turn into "Schlossstraße" again, which will lead you back to the station.

Length: 6,3 km
Difference in altitude: 211 m
Time: 3:15 h
Difficulty: medium

The "Alperlebnispfad in Steibis" is ideal for families – a lot of fun and adventure hiking tour with interesting information about the alpine farming and its features is awaiting you. 47 stations will give kids and adults the possibility to experience and feel the nature. A few stations offer some kind of play ground, others are telling about history and landscape of that alpine region. All together there are 16 stations of information, 17 stations filled with questions and 16 stations for action. The total length of the Alperlebnispfad is 6,3 kilometers. It is a comfortable path about 3 hours, also for buggies with bigger wheels. In alternative there is a shorter track with 5,3 kilometers and a very short one over 2,3 kilometer. There are several stops on the way, alpine huts offer refreshments. Next to the "Hochwies-Alpe" and the "Hochbühl-Alpe" there is a bus-stop leading to the top of the cable car.

You start of at the cable car. Westwards you walk through a small forest. After this the round-tour is starting. You can follow the hiking signs "Alperlebnispfad". There is an alternate of up and downs while you pass "Häusslers Gschwend" and "Alpe Glutschwanden". Now and then you will find one of those 47 stations. Shortly after the "Alpe Glutschwanden" turn right and follow the wonderful path through the peat bog to reach the other side of the mountain plateau. Right after the "Alpe Hochwies" you turn left and walk downhill until the mountain stream Lanzenbach. Another uphill-walk is following and you will pass the "Alpe Hochbühl". Another five minutes and you will reach the small forest again, back to the starting point.
